I have retired after 40 years in NIHED/DCU where it has been an honour, a privilege and a joy, in equal measure, to have
served in academic and administrative/ management/ leadership roles. I thank
all four Presidents, along with the Deans and Heads of Physics that I have
worked with. I also thank those FSH School Heads, Centre Directors, Associate
Deans and Faculty Office colleagues that supported me during my term as
Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science and Health (2011-2016). It was a
hugely rewarding experience to work with other Deans, VPs, DP (P at this date),
the COO and HR/Finance Directors from whom I learned a huge amount at academic,
professional and institutional levels. I am very grateful to the many
colleagues from across the University in Finance, HR, Registry, ISS, Research
Support (from Pre- through to Post-Award) and Estates that helped me in my
teaching, research and administrative roles over so many years. I especially
thank my many great current and past colleagues in the School of Physical
Sciences led by Eugene Kennedy since 1980. I wish the new leadership and
colleagues every success into the future. Needless to say,
research is an international business, and I have been lucky to have a
huge group of outstanding national and international collaborators who have
been central to any modicum of research success that I have had. Finally, it is
supporting all students, but especially research students and postdocs, that
drove my 40 years at NIHED/DCU. So, I thank all students, but especially the PG
research students, Interns and Postdocs that have given me so much joy and
support over the years. I look forward to getting some time to think about
research and especially research ideas over the coming years. When I have a
good one (or two), I’ll be back to relevant collaborators.
